Ferrari Challenge Testing at Mont Tremblant With Steve and MG1
Steve and I participated in a Ferrari North America organized test at Mont Tremblant, giving us valuable track time before the upcoming race.
Working alongside the MG1 crew, our Ferrari Challenge testing session gave us an opportunity to look at different parts of the program and make incremental progress throughout the outing.
It was a productive test, and by the end of the session we felt we had found a little bit of time across several areas.
Most importantly, it gave us more information and preparation heading into the race weekend.

Ferrari Challenge Testing Before the Race
Testing before competition provides a different opportunity from a normal race weekend.
During a race event, everything happens quickly.
Practice, qualifying and racing can leave limited time to evaluate changes or work through different ideas.
A dedicated Ferrari Challenge testing session allows the driver and team to take a more methodical approach.
Instead of focusing immediately on the result, the priority can be understanding the car, the driver and how the overall program is progressing.
That was the objective for our Mont Tremblant test.
Working With the MG1 Crew
One of the important parts of the outing was working closely with the MG1 crew.
A productive test requires communication between the driver and team.
Each session can provide new information about how the car is responding and where there may be opportunities for improvement.
The process involves making observations, discussing what happened and deciding what should be evaluated next.
Throughout the test, we were able to work together and make progress across different areas of the program.
Finding Small Improvements
Not every test produces one dramatic change.
Often, progress comes from finding small improvements in several areas.
A little bit of time in one part of the lap may not seem significant on its own.
But when several small improvements are combined, they can contribute to a stronger overall performance.
That was one of the positive parts of this test.
We were able to find a bit of time throughout the program rather than relying on one single adjustment.
Why Track Testing Is Valuable
Track testing gives the driver an opportunity to build familiarity while allowing the team to collect useful feedback.
Some of the areas that may be considered during a test include:
- driver consistency
- braking references
- corner entry
- throttle application
- vehicle balance
- track positioning
- driver feedback
- preparation for upcoming sessions
The objective is to create a clearer understanding of the package before competition begins.
Building Driver Consistency
Consistency is especially useful during testing.
When the driver can repeat similar laps, it becomes easier to understand whether a change has helped.
If every lap is significantly different, it can be difficult to determine whether an improvement came from the car, the driver or changing track conditions.
That makes consistency an important part of the development process.
Steve’s track time gave us additional information that could be carried forward into the upcoming race.
Preparing for Mont Tremblant
Testing at the same circuit before a race can also help the driver become more familiar with the track.
Instead of spending the opening sessions of race weekend simply learning the circuit, previous testing provides useful reference points.
The driver can arrive with a better understanding of the corner sequence, braking areas and general rhythm of the track.
That familiarity gives the team a stronger starting point when competition begins.
Combining Driver and Car Development
Race preparation is not only about changing the car.
The driver is part of the development process as well.
A test can reveal areas where the car may need attention, but it can also highlight driving techniques that deserve additional focus.
That is why driver feedback is so important.
The more clearly the driver can describe what is happening, the easier it becomes for the team to decide what to work on next.
During our Ferrari Challenge testing, Steve and the MG1 crew were able to work through that process together.
Using Every Session Productively
A productive test should have a purpose.
Simply completing laps may provide seat time, but structured testing can provide more useful information.
Each outing can focus on a specific area and then build on what was learned in the previous session.
That keeps the program moving forward.
By the end of our Mont Tremblant test, we had been able to make progress in multiple areas and gather information that could be useful during the upcoming race weekend.
From Testing to Competition
The real value of testing becomes clear when the team returns for competition.
The information gathered during the test gives everyone a starting point.
Instead of beginning from zero, the driver and crew can use what they learned and continue developing from there.
That was exactly what we wanted from this outing.
Steve gained valuable track time, and together with the MG1 crew we were able to improve different parts of the program.
Looking Forward to the Race
Overall, it was a great test at Mont Tremblant.
Working with Steve and the MG1 crew allowed us to make incremental improvements and continue preparing for the upcoming race.
The session gave us useful information, additional seat time and a stronger foundation to work from when we returned for competition.
We were pleased with the progress and looking forward to seeing how everything came together during the race weekend.
