Racing Data Analysis: Preparing Scott for the SCCA National Championship
Race preparation does not always happen behind the wheel.
After completing a PCA weekend at Road America, Scott wanted to take a closer look at everything he had learned before competing in the SCCA National Championship. That allowed us to use racing data analysis, onboard video, and driver feedback to identify areas that could help him prepare for the next event.
We reviewed his sessions together, compared what was happening around the lap, and developed a strategy he could take into the championship weekend.

Using Racing Data Analysis After Road America
Scott had recently completed a PCA weekend at Road America and came away with a useful amount of data and video.
Rather than simply looking at lap times, we reviewed the sessions in more detail.
Effective racing data analysis can help a driver understand what is happening in specific parts of the lap, including:
- braking points
- minimum corner speed
- throttle application
- acceleration
- consistency
- track position
- differences between laps
- areas where time may be gained or lost
The goal is not to overload the driver with information.
The useful part is identifying a small number of areas that can be turned into a clear plan for the next time the driver gets into the car.
Combining Data With Onboard Video
Data becomes even more valuable when it is reviewed alongside onboard video.
A speed trace may show where time is being gained or lost, but the video can help explain why.
Video can provide context around traffic, steering input, track position, braking references and how the driver approaches each corner.
By combining race car data analysis with onboard footage, we were able to build a more complete picture of Scott’s Road America sessions.
Developing a Strategy for the SCCA National Championship
After going through the available information, Scott came over and we reviewed his outings together.
From there, we identified useful information and developed a stronger strategy for the upcoming SCCA National Championship.

For a driver preparing for an event at that level, having a plan before arriving at the circuit can make practice time much more productive.

Strong Pace in GT2 Practice
When Scott returned to competition, the preparation showed promise.
According to the original Jason Hart Racing update, Scott was the fastest car during the GT2 practice sessions.
Unfortunately, he missed the final practice because of a mechanical issue.
That is one of the realities of motorsport: preparation can put the driver and car in a strong position, but mechanical reliability can still change the outcome of a weekend.
Mechanical Problems Before the Race
When race time arrived, the mechanical issue returned.
Scott was ultimately unable to take the green flag.
It was a frustrating conclusion after showing strong pace during practice, but the weekend still demonstrated what the earlier racing data analysis and preparation had helped accomplish.
The speed was there.
Sometimes the final result does not reflect the driver’s preparation or performance.
Why Data Review Matters Between Events
A race weekend creates a large amount of information.
Without reviewing it afterward, much of that information can be lost before the next event.
A structured review can help a driver answer questions such as:
Where Was I Most Consistent?
Consistency can reveal which techniques are already working well.
Where Was I Losing Time?
Comparing laps can help identify braking zones, corners or transitions that deserve more attention.
What Did the Video Show?
Onboard footage may highlight positioning or technique that is difficult for the driver to recognize from inside the car.
What Should I Work on Next?
The most important outcome of data review is a clear list of priorities for the next session.
Road America and Race Preparation
Road America remains one of the major road-racing circuits in the United States. The current configuration is approximately 4.048 miles with 14 turns. Sports Car Club of America
Its combination of long straights, braking zones and varied corners makes preparation particularly valuable for drivers competing there.

Data Analysis as Part of Driver Coaching
Racing data analysis works best when it is combined with driver feedback, video and an understanding of what the driver is trying to accomplish.
Jason Hart Racing uses these tools as part of a broader approach to driver development, including trackside coaching, racecraft, testing and preparation for competition.

Looking Ahead to the Next GT2 Race
Scott’s championship weekend did not end the way we wanted, but the pace he showed in GT2 practice was encouraging.
The preparation, data review and strategy helped put him in a strong position before the mechanical problem returned.
The next step was simple: fix the issue, keep developing and watch out for the GT2 car when it returned to the track.
Great drive, Scott.
